Between August 24 and September 21, 2025, Romania becomes the global center of classical music as it hosts the 27th edition of the George Enescu International Festival.
The event will take place in five concert halls across Bucharest — Sala Palatului, the Romanian Athenaeum, Sala Radio, Auditorium, and Odeon Theatre — as well as in Cluj, Timişoara, Constanţa, and Sibiu.
This year’s edition also marks 70 years since the passing of George Enescu, paying tribute to his artistic legacy and profound influence on global classical music.
For the 16th consecutive year, KMG International Group (Rompetrol) has the honor of being the main partner of this prestigious event, reaffirming its long-term commitment to culture, excellence, and the promotion of Romanian values.
Since 2010, KMG International (Rompetrol) has supported the George Enescu International Festival and Competition — a platform for emerging talents and a standard of artistic excellence recognized worldwide. By supporting this event, the company actively contributes to the cultural life of the community and promotes an artistic dialogue that transcends generations and borders.
Both Rompetrol and George Enescu represent Romanian excellence with international reach. They are united by a rich history, a strong commitment to community, and the ability to inspire — whether through innovation and energy or through artistic creation and emotion.
The 2025 edition of the Festival features over 95 concerts, grouped into seven distinct series under the artistic direction of maestro Cristian Măcelaru, blending tradition and innovation, and addressing both experienced audiences and new generations. Alongside Enescu’s masterpieces — such as the opera Oedipe, his Symphonies, Romanian Rhapsodies, and Ballad for Violin and Orchestra — the program will also include works by important composers such as Dmitri Shostakovich, Pierre Boulez, and Maurice Ravel.
One of the Festival’s key objectives is the promotion of young talents. The Romanian Youth Orchestra, along with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, will perform under the baton of renowned conductors like Manfred Honeck and Christian Reif. In addition, the laureates of the 2024 George Enescu Competition will perform in a distinguished international setting.
In addition, the company supports cultural projects and side events associated with the Festival, aimed at bringing classical music closer to a broader audience. A significant example of this commitment is the support given to the launch of the volume In Memoriam Valentin Gheorghiu — a project coordinated by Monica Pop and Ştefan Costache, in collaboration with Artexim, that pays homage to the noble presence of maestro Valentin Gheorghiu on the Romanian classical music scene for over seven decades. The work, an anthology of over 400 pages, offers an extensive biographical, artistic, and human portrait of one of the greatest Romanian musicians of the 20th century — pianist, composer, educator, and mentor, Valentin Gheorghiu remains a true symbol of artistic generosity and excellence.
As part of these associated cultural events, Rompetrol also supports the commemorative exhibition Enescu 70, organized by Art Safari between September 5 and December 14. The exhibition explores both the personal life and artistic career of the great maestro, highlighting his exceptional contributions to world classical music. It features artworks, photographs, personal belongings, and rare documents, offering visitors a unique perspective on George Enescu’s legacy. Visitors will thus gain a deeper understanding of his impact on global music and the lasting influence of his personality on future generations of creators.
Throughout the Festival, Rompetrol brings classical music closer to the general public, including through its fuel stations, where customers can listen to classical compositions. The Rompetrol Go mobile app also features a special playlist of performances by young musicians from the Enescu Competition, thus integrating classical music into users' everyday lives.
By supporting the Enescu Festival, Rompetrol builds bridges between generations, encourages dialogue, stimulates creativity, and helps shape a positive and lasting image of Romania on the international cultural map.
