Rompetrol Quality Control (RQC) is the laboratory division of KMG International Group, established in 2004 through the gradual outsourcing of the petroleum products and environmental laboratories of the Petromidia and Vega refineries, followed by the integration of the petrochemical products laboratory.
 
Over more than 20 years of activity, RQC has expanded its nationwide presence, providing testing services for petroleum products (liquid, solid and gaseous), biofuels, petrochemical products, solvents, bitumen and bituminous binders, environmental factors (water, air and soil), waste, occupational pollutants, as well as testing of masks and breathing apparatus..

Investments in laboratory modernization

Rompetrol Quality Control is implementing an extensive modernization and upgrade program, equipping the laboratories at the Petromidia Năvodari and Vega Ploiești refineries, as well as the petrochemical products laboratory, with state-of-the-art analytical equipment.

Dozens of pieces of equipment are being acquired to expand testing capacity and support quality control activities.

The new equipment includes high-performance chromatographs, including those dedicated to the analysis of aviation fuel and other specialty products, as well as systems for identifying sulfur, nitrogen, chlorine and metals. The technological portfolio also includes equipment for particle determination, physical property testing and other key quality indicators.

The new instruments enable analyses to be performed with greater precision, speed and sensitivity, including for parameters measured at very low concentrations. These improvements contribute to more reliable results and more efficient quality control processes.

At the same time, the integration of modern solutions facilitates digital data management, workflow optimization and increased testing capacity, providing the laboratories with the flexibility needed to meet market requirements and develop commercial partnerships with third-party companies.

Over 20 years of performance

Since its establishment, Rompetrol Quality Control has performed more than 13.5 million services for the Petromidia and Vega refineries, as well as for partners outside the Group.

RQC is the first company in Romania to have implemented a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for managing laboratory information.

The company has participated in numerous projects and monitoring programs for the quality of automotive fuels and liquid fuels. It has been recognized by the Romanian Ministry of Energy as part of the national automotive fuel quality monitoring program, as well as by the Romanian Ministry of Economy for determining sulfur content in liquid fuels.

RQC has implemented an integrated management system for quality, environmental protection, occupational health and safety, in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.

RQC has the necessary logistics to provide on-site services nationwide, and all laboratories operate 24/7.

Laboratories

Petroleum Products Laboratory – Năvodari

The Năvodari laboratory specializes in testing the quality of liquid, solid and gaseous petroleum products, as well as biofuels, in accordance with national and international standards.

Organized into distinct technical units, the laboratory covers the testing categories relevant to the refining and distribution industry. These include the determination of density, distillation characteristics, viscosity, oxidation stability, flash point and freezing point, as well as octane and cetane number determination for gasoline and diesel.

The laboratory performs chromatographic tests to determine paraffin, olefin, naphthene, aromatic compound, benzene and oxygenate content, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and gas composition. Its portfolio also includes spectral and specialized analyses to determine sulfur, gums, residual carbon, metals, oxidation stability and hydrocarbon fractions.

RQC can provide external clients with a full range of gasoline and diesel testing services under RENAR accreditation, as well as testing services for jet fuel containing a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) component.

Petroleum Products Laboratory – Vega Ploiești

The laboratory at the Vega refinery specializes in testing liquid petroleum products, bitumen samples, solvents and n-hexane.

Its activities are organized into specialized technical units according to the type of testing performed. The laboratory carries out physicochemical analyses of raw materials, semi-finished and finished products, performs complex analyses of liquid products and bitumen, and determines the composition of gasoline and solvent fractions, benzene and n-hexane content, as well as saturated, aromatic and polar compound content.

The laboratory can perform the full range of tests for n-hexane, polymerization-grade solvent and food-grade solvent used in vegetable oil extraction. It also performs detailed component analyses and the complete range of tests required for road bitumen.

Environmental Laboratories – Năvodari and Ploiești

The environmental laboratories in Năvodari and Ploiești perform tests to monitor the quality of water, air, soil, sludge and waste, in accordance with applicable national and European requirements.

For accidental pollution incidents and services performed at client sites, RQC operates a mobile laboratory equipped to measure specific indicators of atmospheric pollutant emissions.

Services also include occupational pollutant testing, supporting the monitoring of environmental and workplace exposure factors.

Petrochemical Products Laboratory – Petromidia

Located on the Petromidia platform, the Petrochemical Products Laboratory specializes in analysing the quality of polymers, processed polymer products and other petrochemical compounds.

The laboratory performs comprehensive and continuous polymer monitoring in accordance with international testing standards and the regulations applicable to plastics intended for food contact.

Its activities are organized into distinct technical units according to the type of testing performed, enabling product characteristics to be assessed and compliance with applicable requirements to be verified.
