The Năvodari laboratory specializes in the complete testing of petroleum product quality – liquids, solids, gases, and biofuels – in accordance with national and international standards. Structured into specialized technical units, the laboratory covers all relevant testing categories for the refining and distribution industry, including: density, distillation, viscosity, oxidation stability, flash point/freezing point, as well as octane and cetane number determination for gasoline and diesel, chromatographic tests (determination of paraffin, olefin, naphthene, aromatic, benzene and oxygenate content, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, gas composition, etc.), as well as spectral and special analyses: sulfur, gum, residual carbon, metals, oxidation stability, and hydrocarbon fractions for all types of samples (liquid, solid, gaseous).
Specialized analyses: petroleum coke, gases, and biofuels
The laboratory has developed expertise in elemental analysis of petroleum coke (calorific value, moisture, ash, sulfur, metals), supporting emission monitoring and energy efficiency. It also performs tests for natural gas, which is useful for partners in calculating greenhouse gas emission factors.
The petroleum products laboratory in Năvodari is evaluated by RAR for biodiesel-specific testing, in accordance with the testing methods outlined in SR EN 14214+A2:2019. The lab is also listed in the RAR-DCP registered laboratories directory, publicly available on the Romanian Automotive Registry’s website. RAR is RENAR accredited for fuel pump nozzle sampling, according to SR EN 14275:2013.
