Rompetrol Rafinare continues to invest in state‑of‑the‑art intervention equipment and vehicles, as part of its constant efforts to maintain a high level of safety for employees, installations, and the environment.

At the Petromidia refinery, the intervention fleet has been renewed with two fire trucks and two foam‑transport tankers, specially acquired to complement the semi‑fixed extinguishing system on petroleum product tanks.

“Through this project, we have succeeded in integrating state‑of‑the‑art technical means that will help us strengthen our intervention capacity and increase the level of protection for employees, the community, and the critical infrastructure we serve. The new emergency vehicles are equipped with modern technologies, adapted to the highest current intervention and prevention requirements, and will contribute to reducing response times, regardless of the situation,” stated Sorin Graure, General Manager of Rompetrol Rafinare.

The fire trucks are equipped with high‑capacity water and foam concentrate tanks, and their pumps deliver a high flow rate at pressures suitable for interventions. The water and foam monitors mounted on the vehicles can rotate 360 degrees and allow strong discharge, necessary for efficiently covering the action area.

Additionally, the foam‑transport tankers ensure an extended intervention duration thanks to the available quantity of foam concentrate, which, when mixed with water, generates the foam used as a fire‑suppressing agent. Each tanker has a capacity of 17,000 litres.

To increase intervention efficiency, the Petromidia platform has begun the transition from a fixed firefighting system to a semi‑fixed one. More precisely, the shift is being made from static intervention equipment to a system in which fire trucks and tankers supply the extinguishing agent. In this new model, the fire truck connects directly to the pipeline network intended for extinguishing tank fires, to the hydrant, and to the foam tanker, pumping a mixture of water and foam concentrate onto the tank roof and into the retention basin.

The acquisition of the emergency vehicles completes the safety measures implemented at the two KMG International Group refineries – Petromidia Năvodari and Vega Ploieşti – to ensure the highest possible level of safety for employees and operations.

Among these measures are the modernization of essential equipment, the replacement of smoke and gas detection systems, and the acquisition of modern GPS‑enabled communication devices to rapidly locate individuals when needed.

All these actions are part of the ongoing process to improve and update the general safety and security programs at Rompetrol Rafinare.

The significant shareholders of Rompetrol Rafinare SA are KMG International (54.63% – direct and indirect) and the Romanian State through the Ministry of Energy (44.7%).
