Rompetrol is expanding its presence this year with 13 new fuel distribution stations in Romania, located in areas of interest across the country and along high-speed roads. The first six stations are at various stages of construction, with completion estimated for April and opening planned for the June–July period.
“This is a complex project, as we are carrying it out simultaneously in three distinct areas, but we benefit from the support of specialized teams with experience in such works. The new stations will ensure an increased Rompetrol presence in areas with a strategic role for transport, in line with the development of national infrastructure. Going forward, we aim to continue expanding the network and remain open to opportunities that can bring added value to the national distribution segment”, said Laurenţiu Colţănel, Network Planning and Development Director at KMG International (Rompetrol).
The six stations will create over 130 new jobs and will each be equipped with three multiproduct pumps, one high-speed pump, one AdBlue pump (a special additive used in diesel engines to comply with the Euro 6 standard), an LPG skid, and four 150 kW charging stations. The stations will integrate the hei concept, and the actual area allocated to each fuel station will be 273 square meters.
Thus, two stations are being built in Mureş County (Sânpaul locality), on the A3 Motorway, a short distance from the city of Târgu Mureş, and will feature 36 parking spaces for passenger cars and 11 parking spaces for heavy-duty vehicles.
Construction works are also advanced on two new stations in Braşov County, on the Braşov city bypass, which can accommodate 59 passenger cars and 22 heavy-duty vehicles.
Another two stations are under construction in the municipality of Suceava – Suceava Ipoteşti (on National Road DN2, at the entrance to Suceava) and Suceava Scheia (on the bypass). Together, the two fuel stations will have parking capacity for 50 passenger cars and 20 heavy-duty vehicles.
At the same time, construction works for seven others new Rompetrol stations have been initiated, at locations across the country—Bucharest Ring Road, Ovidiu (Constanţa County), Iaşi, Bacău, Timişoara, as well as two stations on the exit/entry route to the Republic of Moldova, through the Albiţa border crossing. These will generate approximately 130 additional jobs.
By expanding and diversifying the range of services and products offered, supported by electric vehicle charging capabilities and mobile apps, Rompetrol stations have evolved over the past 15 years, becoming service hubs and energy providers for customers. A dedicated mobile app for electric charging (Rompetrol EV-Charge*) was also recently launched, allowing users to view in real time the availability, charging speeds, and estimated wait times at all charging stations within the company’s network.
In 2023, Rompetrol introduced, for the first time in Romania, a new concept for motorway service areas, integrating fuel/AdBlue supply, fast-charging stations for electric vehicles, parking and relaxation areas, with a generous interior featuring surfaces three times larger than the average of other Rompetrol stations.
Upon completion, the new fuel stations will be taken over for operation by Rompetrol Downstream, the retail division of the KMG International Group in Romania.
By the end of September 2025, Rompetrol’s distribution segment in Romania comprised 1,206 retail outlets that exclusively use fuels produced at Romania’s largest refinery, Petromidia Năvodari.
