The Awarding Ceremony of the world's best weightlifter - Olympic, World and European champion, the world records man, Lasha Talakhadze was held at the Rustaveli Theater yesterday on 7th of May, 2018. In addition, the best female athlete Spanish Lydia Valentin was awarded in Tbilisi. Georgia's Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili personally handed over the main prize to the 2017 world's best weightlifters.

The event was attended by the President of International Weightlifting Federation, Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Culture and Sport, and other members of Government of Georgia.  Top Management of “Rompetrol” from Romania has arrived for this special day to Georgia. The representatives of the company, Chief Executive Officer of Rompetrol owning company KazMunayGaz International, Zhanat Tussupbekov, and General Director of "Rompetrol Georgia" Zamanbek Mirzayanov personally congratulated Lasha Talakhadze and Lidia Valentin for their victory.

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has decided to hold the award ceremony in Tbilisi. It should be noted that this kind of Awarding Ceremony was held in Georgia for the first time. Until now, not a single International Sports Federation has ever held the best sportsman awarding ceremony in any kind of sport in Georgia.

Noteworthy, that it is the first time when the Georgian weightlifter wins the poll of International Weightlifting Federation for the best weightlifter of the world that is being conducted since 1982.
