Nicolae Nedelcu
Sustainability Manager
With Rompetrol since 2018
My story at Rompetrol began even before I was offi cially hired. In 2013 and 2014, I participated in the Together We Grow - Rompetrol Traineeship program, an experience that gave me my first exposure to the industry and confi rmed that this is the field in which I wanted to grow. I officially joined Rompetrol in 2018 as a Well Services Engineer in the Technical Department and subsequently held the roles of Sales Manager, Technology Manager, and Well Services Unit Manager within the Cementing Division. Currently, I am a Sustainability Manager, contributing to the development of more efficient, responsible, and future-oriented projects and processes.
It’s hard for me to name just one person because I’ve had the opportunity to learn from many colleagues over the years. Right from the start, I was surrounded by professionals with extensive experience who took the time to share their knowledge and guide me through various stages of my career. Even today, I continue to learn from mentors and colleagues with a wealth of experience - people who know how to handle any situation, no matter how complex, and who manage to get things done in a professional and pleasant manner. From them, I’ve learned not only technical skills but also the importance of remaining calm, being responsible, having team spirit, and fi nding solutions when challenges arise.
Yes, one piece of advice I frequently give to trainees - and that I try to apply myself every day - is not to be afraid to ask questions and to take advantage of the experience of the people around them. At a company like Rompetrol Well Services, there’s a wealth of knowledge accumulated over generations, and the fastest way to grow is to be curious and open to learning. I also always encourage them to take on responsibilities and view every challenge as an opportunity for growth. It’s a principle that has helped me in every role I’ve held and that I continue to apply in my day-to-day work.
How have you adapted your mentoring style to suit the needs and personality of your current trainee?
I’ve learned that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to mentoring. Every trainee has their own learning style, goals, and pace of development. In Vlad’s case, I’ve emphasized open dialogue, encouraging him to ask questions, express his ideas, and gradually take on more responsibilities. I try to provide him with both guidance and the space he needs to learn from his own experiences. I’m glad to see that this approach has paid off. For some time now, Vlad has been working independently as an engineer in cementing operations, successfully managing unforeseen situations that arise in the field, coordinating teams, and executing highly complex cementing operations.
Describe Vlad in three words:
Responsible, persistent, and trustworthy.

Vlad Constantin Brăgea
Well Services Engineer
With Rompetrol since 2023
What motivated you to apply to the Together We Grow - Rompetrol Traineeship program?
I applied to this program because I saw it as an opportunity to launch a solid career, and every experience I’ve gained has helped me grow both professionally and personally. I chose Rompetrol Well Services because I wanted to be part of a company with a long history in the oil and gas industry, where I could learn from experienced professionals and continue to develop my skills.
What was your biggest fear when you joined the company, and how did you overcome it?
My biggest fear was the responsibility that comes with fieldwork and the fact that every decision can have a significant impact. I overcame this fear through continuous learning, dedication, the support of my colleagues, and the desire to become better every day.
What is the biggest advantage of having a mentor at this stage of your career?
I think the biggest advantage is having an experienced person by your side who off ers guidance, feedback, and confi dence when you need it. Over the years, I’ve had colleagues and supervisors who have contributed to my development, and each one has taught me something valuable about professionalism and responsibility. However, the mentor who has had the greatest impact on my development within the company is Nicolae Nedelcu.
What is the most important piece of advice or feedback you’ve received from Nicolae?
My mentor advised me not to rush to conclusions and to always make decisions based on information, experience, and sound judgment. In our industry, patience, attention to detail, and communication make all the difference.
