Rompetrol Downstream is launching a campaign to support blood donation at the national level, between March 15 and May 10, in partnership with the National Institute of Hematology and Transfusion, Department for Emergency Situations and the SMURD Foundation. Through Rompetrol Hei stations at national level, the company will provide donors, free of charge, with products from its gastro area.

“We’ve been traditionally involved in several nationwide health projects, for over 15 years. After the pandemic, we are facing a humanitarian crisis, which requires solidarity and responsibility and we invite our colleagues, our business partners, and the extended community to join this effort, to donate blood at a time when the need is acute. The campaign through which we offer hei products is the symbolic way in which we, Rompetrol, thank donors for their gesture of great nobility and responsibility.” – Zhanibek Nugertayev, GM of Rompetrol Downstream.

“Blood donation is an indicator of the health of a generation, especially in terms of manifestation of individual empathy. A society in which there is a constant and sufficient number of blood donors is a healthy society.” Dr. Violeta Oancea – Director of the National Institute for Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

A single unit of donated blood can save up to 3 lives. However, in Romania, statistically, there are 1,8% donors, while at European level 37% people donate blood, according to a report of the European Parliament.

„Blood donation is an act of human solidarity during peace times, and even more important during warfare. We happily join Rompetrol in this action and launch a call to population to support us and our Ukrainian neighbors who are treated in Romanian hospitals.” – Dr. Raed Arafat, Chief of Department for Emergency Situations and President of the SMURD Foundation.

The campaign takes place in all 41 transfusion centers in Romania, and the donor will receive at the time of donation a voucher based on which (s)he can receive free of charge, between March 15 – May 30, from any Rompetrol fuel distribution station a fresh juice and a sandwich. The voucher is not transferable and is valid together with the donor card or a certificate attesting the donation.

The campaign regulation is available on the social media channels of Rompetrol as well as of the partners. The list of blood transfusion centers in the country can be consulted here: http://doneazasange.ro/doneaza (the campaign includes only transfusion centers, not collection points), and the conditions and recommendations for donors are available here: http://www.ctsbucuresti.ro/conditii_admisibilitate.html.

A similar project was implemented by Rompetrol in 2020, during the pandemic, with more than 20,000 liters of blood collected during the 2-month summer campaign, with over 44,000 people donating.

Rompetrol also supported the activity of transfusion centers through various projects – in 2017 the the company donated to the National Blood Transfusion Institute two plasma refrigerators that meet the norms and European standards imposed, as well as technical-medical furniture for laboratories; in 2018 Rompetrol endowed the Constanta Regional Transfusion Center with new equipment meant to increase the technical capacity of the medical unit: a platelet agitator and a hemo-mixer, which are mandatory equipment for any transfusion center.

In 2021, Rompetrol equipped the blood tests lab of the Navodari medical unit with high performing devices which   allow diverse and complex investigations, serving a population of 30,000 inhabitants.
