Rompetrol Well Services is celebrating today 75 years of activity supporting the development of Romania’s oil and gas sector. Today, the company is a trusted national and regional partner in delivering specialized services, recognized across Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

"75 years of activity represent experience built over time through people, projects, and our ability to continuously adapt to the industry's evolution. We started with working methods and technologies specific to the 1950s and have progressed to operating advanced solutions capable of meeting the requirements of increasingly complex projects, both in Romania and in international markets. For us, this anniversary is both a recognition of our journey so far and a commitment to the future: to preserve the expertise we have accumulated, transfer it to new generations, and continue investing in technology, safety, and people," said Georgian Florea, General Manager of Rompetrol Well Services, a member company of KMG International Group.

From 1951 to the present, Rompetrol Well Services (RWS) has evolved continuously, moving from work methods based on empirical calculations and limited results to advanced digital solutions and state-of-the-art technologies.

Investments in modern equipment, continuous personnel training, and portfolio diversification have strengthened RWS's position as Romania’s leading specialized well services provider and a trusted international partner in the field. Behind every project is a robust logistics structure coordinated from the company’s central technical base in Ploieşti, supported by a fleet of 107 specialized units and vehicles dedicated to the industry’s requirements.

Well cementing services for oil and gas wells represent the company’s technical core, engaging 75% of its operational workforce. These activities include casing and liner cementing, squeeze cementing operations, and well abandonment services, all performed safely and in compliance with environmental protection requirements. Beyond cementing services, the company’s portfolio also includes well stimulation operations to enhance well productivity, nitrogen pumping services to bring wells into production and conduct pressure and integrity testing, casing running and pulling operations, and various pumping services such as fluid circulation and displacement.

All these integrated operations are essential to maintaining well integrity, a critical factor in ensuring the safe and efficient exploitation of hydrocarbon resources. Since every well is unique, Rompetrol Well Services specialists analyze and optimize cement slurry formulations and technical solutions for each operation. Since 2001, the company has undertaken a strategic transition toward advanced formulations, using cements and additives certified in accordance with European standards and selected based on the best available technical solutions in the industry.

The professionalism and expertise of Romanian specialists have strengthened the company’s reputation, resulting in RWS services being sought for major projects by oil operators and drilling contractors in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Türkiye, Greece, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Iraq, Israel, and Kazakhstan. Over the years, the company has demonstrated its technical capabilities throughout the region through successful operations performed on wells drilled to depths of up to 5,900 meters in Bulgaria, 5,200 meters in Ukraine, 4,800 meters in Kazakhstan, and 3,500 meters in Iraq.

In recent years, Rompetrol Well Services has expanded into related sectors across the Black Sea region, contributing to strategic projects. The company carried out cementing works for geothermal wells in Baloteşti (Therme Bucharest), Beiuş, and Aarhus, Denmark, as part of a pilot project, as well as at Gerota Hospital. RWS also participated in decommissioning the Gloria offshore platform, the first operation of its kind in Romania, and in similar work in the Doina offshore field.

Today, RWS contributes to highly complex projects such as Caragele Deep, performing cementing operations on wells exceeding 5,000 meters in depth within the largest onshore natural gas discovery in Romania in recent decades. Beyond field operations, the company’s engineers have carried out extensive planning to develop cementing programs tailored to each oil and gas production well.

Over the last 15 years, the company has completed more than 16,000 significant specialized operations. RWS specialists have delivered these projects safely and efficiently in Romania and in international markets. Over the past five years, the company has maintained an average workforce of approximately 140 employees.

To sustain this level of activity and support generational renewal, the company continues to invest in attracting young professionals. More than 60 graduates from higher and pre-university education institutions have participated in the company’s traineeship programs over the last decade, with 80% selected and choosing to continue their careers within RWS.

Since 2007, following the integration of The Rompetrol Group into KazMunayGas, RWS has been part of a globally integrated energy group, further strengthening its position across the region.
