On April 3, Rompetrol volunteers took part in a tree-planting initiative held in Reghin, in partnership with the “Plantăm fapte bune în România” program. Together with representatives from Artexim – the organizer of the George Enescu International Festival – and AALR (the Association of Luthiers in Romania), they contributed to planting 5,000 maple and oak saplings, valuable species essential for the craft of musical instrument making.
This marks the third edition of the Reghin tree-planting initiative, following previous actions conducted in the fall of 2024 and the spring of 2025, reaffirming the company’s ongoing commitment to expanding forested areas and supporting local communities.
The project also included an educational component, offering participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of forest ecosystems, tree species, optimal planting conditions, and soil characteristics, thereby strengthening their understanding of the role of forests in climate balance.
The plantation will be monitored over the long term by forestry engineers until the forest reaches maturity. In the immediate period ahead, specific interventions will be carried out, including maintenance work to remove competing vegetation and control pests, typically 2–3 times in the first years, to ensure the healthy and sustainable development of the trees.
The Transylvanian region benefits from pedoclimatic conditions favorable to forest development, such as adequate moisture levels and suitable soil. This ensures a high rate of seedling survival and growth compared to drier regions in Romania.
Planting maple and oak also carries symbolic significance, as these species are essential for the craft of making musical instruments. Rompetrol supports arts education through a partnership with the Romanian Association of Luthiers, through which music schools in Prahova, Constanţa, and Piteşti have received musical instruments – an initiative that will continue.
Artexim is an institution under the Ministry of Culture that organizes and promotes the George Enescu Festival and Competition, some of the most prestigious musical events in the world. In 2026, Rompetrol celebrates 17 years of partnership with the festival and competition, strengthening its support for cultural excellence and initiatives that combine art with social responsibility.
Romanian Association of Luthiers Artists (AALR) brings together master luthiers dedicated to preserving tradition and excellence in the art of constructing and restoring stringed musical instruments. Founded to promote the quality and authenticity of handmade instruments, the association actively supports the professional development of its members, promotes high standards in lutherie, and collaborates with artists and prestigious institutions to preserve this valuable craft in Romania. AALR also organizes educational and artistic events, promoting instruments made by its members both nationally and internationally.
