Rompetrol Downstream opened the first fuel stations on the Transylvania Motorway (A3) today, at kilometer 8+400 (left/right). They are located in the Sânpaul area, just 20 kilometers from the city of Târgu Mureş, and mark a first for this type of infrastructure along this road corridor.

The two new units, built following an investment of approximately USD 4.8 million, operate within the service areas on the A3 Motorway, Câmpia Turzii–Târgu Mureş section, under a service concession agreement concluded with the National Road Infrastructure Management Company (CNAIR).
“The completion of these new fuel stations on the A3 Motorway complements the 12 stations opened in 2023 on the A1 Nădlac–Sibiu Motorway. Our development strategy continues to focus on increasing our national presence by capitalizing on opportunities in Romania’s distribution segment”, added Laurenţiu Colţănel, Network Planning and Development Director at KMG International.
Each fuel station has a surface area of 271 square meters and incorporates a premium food and retail concept, based on the model the company first launched in 2023 for motorway service areas. The opening of the Sânpaul facilities has also created more than 30 new jobs in Mureş County.
The new locations provide customers with comprehensive fueling solutions and transit facilities. Each fueling area is equipped with three multi-product pumps, one high-speed pump and one AdBlue pump, an LPG skid, and four fast electric vehicle charging points. The infrastructure also includes 42 parking spaces for passenger cars and 11 spaces for heavy-duty vehicles at each service area.
The inauguration of the two facilities in Mureş County, where Rompetrol Downstream already operates nine other distribution points (in Târgu Mureş, Sighişoara, Reghin and Luduş), is part of a nationally coordinated expansion program.
The company plans to open four more stations in the coming period along the bypass routes of the municipalities of Braşov and Suceava.
In this regard, construction work has been completed for two stations on the Suceava bypass: Suceava–Ipoteşti on DN2 and Suceava–Şcheia. In the county, the network comprises more than 20 retail locations. Similarly, two other new distribution facilities are currently undergoing the approval and acceptance process on the Braşov bypass, adding to the 18 existing locations in the county (Rompetrol, Partner, Express and LPG stations).
As of the end of June 2026, Rompetrol Downstream operated a nationwide distribution network comprising 1,208 fuel distribution points, including company-owned and partner stations, Express mobile units, and internal fuel supply bases with storage capacities of 9 and 20 cubic meters. Our clients use these units directly at operating sites, such as logistics bases, construction sites, farms, and vehicle fleets.
Six fuel depots in Arad, Craiova, Mogoşoaia, Şimleu Silvaniei, Vatra Dornei, and Zărneşti support the distribution network, ensuring nationwide coverage and efficient logistics flows. The network also includes the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) segment, with more than 280 LPG skids, approximately 7,000 LPG cylinder distribution points, and three LPG depots in Bacău, Arad, and Pantelimon, with a combined capacity of 60,000 tonnes per year.
