Rompetrol Quality Control (RQC), the laboratory division of KMG International (Rompetrol) Group, is implementing an extensive modernization and state-of-the-art analytical equipment upgrade program at the laboratories of the Petromidia Năvodari and Vega Ploieşti refineries.

Approximately 40 pieces of equipment are being acquired for the laboratories at the Petromidia Năvodari and Vega Ploieşti refineries, as well as for Romania's only petrochemicals division.

"These investments mark a new stage in our technological and operational development, enabling us to keep pace with advancements in fuels, aviation fuels, bitumen, solvents, and petrochemical products. The efficiency and reliability of RQC laboratory results are essential to the entire operational chain, which is why it is crucial that our specialists are supported by modern equipment while adhering to the strictest international quality and safety standards," said Laura Munteanu, Interim General Manager of Rompetrol Quality Control.

The laboratories have been supplied with analytical equipment, including high-performance chromatographs dedicated to the analysis of aviation fuel and other specialty products, capable of delivering highly accurate results for parameters that influence performance, stability, and safety.

The technological portfolio has been further enhanced with advanced systems for the identification of sulfur, nitrogen, chlorine, and metal compounds, as well as equipment for particle determination, physical property testing, and other key quality indicators.

This new suite of instruments enables analyses to be performed with superior precision, speed, and sensitivity, including for parameters measured at very low concentrations. As a result, the laboratories can provide a high level of confidence in internal quality control processes, as well as for customers and regulatory authorities.

The integration of modern solutions allows for faster and fully digital data management, workflow optimization, and expanded testing capacity, giving the laboratories the flexibility needed to meet increasingly diverse market requirements and to support the development of commercial partnerships with third-party companies.

Moreover, RQC uses a mobile laboratory that allows travel to client sites and measures specific indicators of atmospheric pollutant emissions. At the same time, the environmental laboratory provides a wide range of water, air, and soil testing services in compliance with national and European environmental monitoring requirements.

Rompetrol Quality Control is the only company in Romania capable of providing third-party clients with a full range of gasoline and diesel testing services under RENAR accreditation (the Romanian Accreditation Association), as well as testing services for jet fuel containing a SAF component. The company is also certified by the Romanian Automotive Register (RAR) to perform biodiesel testing.

The company's petrochemical products laboratory, the only one of its kind in Romania, performs comprehensive and continuous polymer monitoring in accordance with international testing standards and regulations governing plastics intended for food contact applications, ensuring the safety of the final products for consumers.

The laboratory located on the Vega Ploieşti platform is able to provide the full range of testing services for n-hexane, including polymerization-grade and food-grade solvents used in vegetable oil extraction. It also performs detailed component analyses and offers the complete set of tests required for road bitumen products.

Rompetrol Quality Control was established in 2004 following the gradual outsourcing of the petroleum products and environmental laboratories of the Petromidia and Vega refineries, later integrating the petrochemical products laboratory. Originally structured as the laboratory division serving the Group’s refineries, RQC rapidly expanded its operations nationwide.

Since its inception, the company has participated in numerous successful projects and has been recognized by the Romanian Ministry of Energy within the national automotive fuel quality monitoring program, as well as by the Romanian Ministry of Economy for determining sulfur content in marine liquid fuels.
